Thoughtfully considered window and door framing solutions enhance the indoor-outdoor experience at this luxury retreat in the heart of the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest. During the extensive renovation of Silky Oaks Lodge, the boundaries between inside and out have been deliberately blurred to allow visitors to embrace the unique environment.

Hidden amongst the world-famous rainforest, Silky Oaks Lodge is located in an idyllic location adjacent to the Mossman River. The long-established property recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation to its treehouse villas and open-air pavilions. Guests enjoy the experience of being immersed  in the canopy of the rainforest, staying in one of the 40 luxury villas and accessing the open-air restaurant and bar and an award-winning spa.

While the resort emphasises the open air experience (even outdoor baths!) the guest rooms and facilities still required secure enclosing. In this environment, Alspec’s Invisi-Gard and KidScreen security screen products were the ideal way to integrate the outdoors while keeping guests protected. Made from marine-grade stainless steel mesh, the high visibility screens provide multiple additional features over standard security screens. Not only do they keep out unwanted intruders and pesky insects, but they also provide a window fall prevention mechanism and protection from extreme weather events such as cyclones.

To provide access throughout the site, ProGlide High-Performance Sliding Doors and ProGlide UltraFlat Sliding doors were adopted. The ProGlide doors were developed from the commercial environment and feature heavy-duty rollers which can accommodate substantial glazed panels while still operating effortlessly. The additional benefit of the ProGlide UltraFlat version is that they offer a continuous accessible path with a wheelchair-compliant sill that maintains weather protection.

For window framing requirements, the Hunter Evo framing offers a versatile system that also features extremely good weather credentials and can accommodate up to 40mm double-glazed panels. Being located in Far North Queensland, the cyclone impact testing credentials of this product were also a factor in its selection.
