Looking to replace a home lost to recent bushfires, the project team for Jolly Farm turned straight to Alspec’s high performance window and door ranges for their high bushfire resistance credentials. In rebuilding the rural residence adjacent to a national park, construction materials had to both suit the design aesthetic while helping to protect the home in future.
The building design included floor-to-ceiling glazing stretching to the top of the peaked roof line, aimed at embracing views across the large rural property. Alspec’s ProGlide UltraFlat™ Sliding Doors and ecoFRAMEplus Centre Pocket Framing, which both feature fire resistance and robust construction materials, were chosen to enclose the twin pavilions.
The ProGlide UltraFlat™ Sliding Doors created a seamless interface at ground level with the adjacent semi-outdoor areas which partly shelter under the gables. These doors provide the necessary protection with a BAL40 rating while enabling a continuous accessible pathway to the outdoors when open. BAL40 is the second highest of the Bushfire Attack Level ratings, and products which achieve this rating are able to help mitigate the risk of flames spreading and protect buildings from catching fire from airborne embers.
Above the sliding doors, ecoFRAMEplus panels straddled the space between the doors and the gable roof. This energy efficient system easily spanned the façade dimensions, while providing the same necessary protection with its BAL40 rating. Available in two frame depths (101.6mm or 150mm x 50mm), ecoFRAMEplus is a robust frame with excellent weathering credentials.
