Three elevated glass pavilions deliver commanding ocean views from the newly completed Mona Vale Surf Club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Designed to engage with the natural beachside setting, the new development meets the practical needs of the club’s surf lifesavers, while offering spacious and light-filled leisure and dining facilities for the community’s enjoyment.

The original clubrooms were replaced with a two-storey facility which includes a café, restaurant, function space, bar, gym, first aid room and storage areas. An adjacent amenities block is home to additional lifeguard facilities as well as providing public toilets, showers and change rooms.

The main building pavilions required large format sliding doors which were easy to operate and would perform well in the seaside environment. Alspec’s ProGlide UltraFlat Sliding Doors met these requirements, with their integrated drainage sills, heavy duty rollers, and tested ability to handle the projected wind loads. The water resistant flush sills are wheelchair compliant, providing a continuous accessible path. The doors for each balcony were configured as three panels stacking in each direction with sections of Hunter Evo 150mm Single Flush Glazed Framing between the doors and the ceilings.

At ground level the lobby’s two-storey glazed facade also adopted the Hunter Evo framing, installed in a front glazed format to give a shear wall appearance on the outside. For other openable doors across the build, Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Doors were used.
