Normanby House, Brighton, VIC

Expansive sliding doors from Alspec sit at the heart of the success of this renovation project.

Blurring the connection between indoor living areas and the landscaped garden exterior, large sliding doors from Alspec deliver a sense of openness and connection to this heritage home.

The reimagining of Normanby House in Brighton, Victoria, called for large sliding doors which could manage oversized glazed panels, provide a flush sill interface and be able to be recessed into the concrete head. Early collaboration between the fabricator and the architect ensured the smooth evolution from concept to construction, with minimal adjustments needed once construction was underway.

The Alspec solution which addressed the design demands came in the form of ProGlide UltraFlat™ Sliding Doors. These were specified by project fabricator AAA, including the optional flush sill drainage system. The all-in-one system appealed to architect Pleysier Perkins, not only because of the inbuilt drainage system but also because it allowed the same power-coated finish on the doors to also feature on the sills.

For fixed window framing needs, Alspec’s ecoFRAMEplus Centre Pocket Double Glazed Framing was used, also in the Electro Black Ace finish, providing an appealing contrast to the pale stone and concrete materials used across the build.
