Sorrento Residence, WA

Located in Sorrento, a beautiful historic village on the coast near Perth, the brief for the home was to embrace a relaxed “Palm Springs” feel.

The owners wanted to feel like they were on a holiday.

With vast coastal views from all living areas and abundant natural light, this family home showcases the benefits of using modern glazed louvres. The main living areas have been enclosed with sections of large-panel fixed windows, bookended with panels of Alspec Air-Flo Glass Louvres to let the ocean breeze flow in.

The advantage of modern louvres is their ability to maximise natural cooling through cross-ventilation, without compromising on natural light or views. This product with Breezeway inserts has been tested to withstand cyclonic conditions, making them more than a match for the West Coast’s infamous ocean breezes. Security and flyscreen options can easily be included if desired.

A big feature in many Australian homes is how the indoors and outdoors are connected. Sorrento Residence has a seamless transition between the kitchen and alfresco. Alspec’s ProGlide UltraFlat sliding door was chosen and configured in large stacking panels, 2.4m high. The flush sill allows for wheelchair accessibility and children’s bikes (if you let them!). These sills are weather resistant and ensure that water drains away from the home.

Sorrento Residence is a wonderful demonstration of how large panels frame a view and how louvres can maximise natural cooling making the home a comfortable one.
