Soaring arches with expansive windows have given a retrospective edge to a new high-tech learning centre at the Bundoora Campus of Parade College in Melbourne. In a nod to the College’s 140-year old history in the region, the arches are a modern interpretation of the colonnade structures which typically featured in the traditional educational campuses of yesteryear.

Flooded with natural light, the recently completed three level learning hub will provide students with a multitude of learning spaces from traditional library resources at ground level through to state-of-the-art multimedia spaces on the upper floors.  With the large expanses of glass, and diversity of spaces, a combination of Alspec products were selected based on their key attributes, including Hunter Evo 101 and 150mm Double Glazed Frames and Swan Evo Double Glazed Wide Stile Doors.

Hunter Evo Double Glazed Frames are not only highly resistant to the elements and corrosion, but also encompass sound-reducing properties. The frames are strong, fabricated from architectural grade aluminium, and easily span large spaces. The inclusion of double glazing means any heat loss will be reduced in winter, and the extremes of temperature minimised in summer, saving energy and reducing running costs. The noise reducing properties of the double glazing will also help the students stay free from external distractions. 

The Swan Evo Double Glazed Wide Stile Doors bring the durability necessary for a busy educational facility which will be accessed by hundreds of students every day. With their ability to be used in sliding, hinged or pivot applications, Swan Evo Doors are ideal in a multi-purpose facility such as this with a diversity of spaces. The doors also utilise centre pocket glazing which removes the need for vertical glazing beads and delivers an attractive solution with added security benefits.

Throughout the building Alspec’s sub framing products have been incorporated. The adaptable framing range provides sub heads and sub sills to suit the full range of framing sizes required in this development. Sub sills act as base for framing and deliver excellent weathering properties while sub heads ensure easy window installation in demanding environments.

By creating a light filled, energy efficient environment with a range of inviting spaces, the students can focus on the important task of learning as they make the most of this impressive addition to the College’s educational facilities.
