Alspec’s popular Hunter Evo framing solutions have featured in a combined new construction and renovation project at the Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane. Originally built in 1942, the hospital and associated facilities at the site have undergone extensive renovations and additions while managing to remain fully operational providing medical services.

The project included the construction of a new specialist medical centre with 30 specialist consulting suites, extensions to the existing operating theatres, a new 90-bed ward block, demolition of some of the original structures and new parking and landscaped areas, with all the works completed within the existing footprint of the hospital grounds.

Given its ease of fabrication and installation, Hunter Evo framing products were the logical choice to deliver to the project’s glazing requirements across the development site. One of the most versatile and flexible of Alspec’s framing systems, the Hunter Evo Single Glazed framing comes in two frame depths: 101.6mm and 150mm x 50mm. The architect selected Hunter Evo 150 x 50mm as their first choice of design to meet their desired large spans, satisfy project design and meet the required wind pressure. This was to also offer their client a curtain wall look without exceeding their budgets. Hunter Evo can accommodate a range of single glass thicknesses from 4 to 14mm. On this project the glass used was 6mm toughened Sunergy® green from National Glass. Sunergy® glass is a toned low-E coated glass, combining improved solar control and thermal insulation over standard clear glass.

The frames are demonstratively robust, having been subject to cyclonic impact testing, and include self-draining sub sills to prevent water ingress. Able to be glazed internally or externally, the Hunter Evo is also available in a configuration which can accommodate double glazing. Both the single and double glazed options interface seamlessly with the extensive range of Alspec products.
