Elwood House, Melbourne VIC
Expansive dark bronze powder coated framing solutions add to the visual appeal of this luxurious new residential development.
Marble, concrete and textured brickwork have been combined with floor to ceiling window and door solutions from Alspec to create a luxurious new apartment building in Elwood, south of Melbourne. A short stroll from the shores of Port Phillip Bay and just 8km from the CBD, Elwood House includes a mixture of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom expansive apartments across three upper levels with commercial premises below.
With a goal to make each of the 30 apartments feel more like individual homes, the designers have included generous private terraces and open-air spaces between apartments which maximise natural light while minimising sound travel. Access to the terraces on each level has been provided by Alspec’s ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors. Offering exceptional thermal and acoustic performance, the ProGlide sliding doors can be configured with double or triple tracks and can accommodate single glazed glass up to 14mm and double glazing up to 28 mm. They can be adapted to cater for special locks or screening options and have flush sills which incorporate a stainless steel grate to assist with surface water drainage. A unique feature of the ProGlide doors are the drop in sill tracks which not only cover drainage slots but can be easily replaced if they become worn or damaged.
Meanwhile, ecoFRAMEplus Centre Pocket Framing was selected for use in both fixed and openable awning window applications for the property. The ecoFRAMEplus’ robust construction is ideal to span large openings such as the 2.7m ceiling heights of Elwood House. The sharp, unbroken lines add to the building’s visual appeal, while also delivering exceptional energy efficiency and excellent weathering. Available to two frame depths (101.6mm and 150mm x 50mm), ecoFRAMEplus is an extremely versatile product, accepting a wide range of glazing sizes.
In recognition of the building’s architectural merits, the development has been awarded a Design Development Award “Multi-Unit and Mixed Use Development” from the City of Port Phillip and a Commendation for “Residential Architecture—Multiple Housing” from the Australian Institute of Architects, Victorian Architecture Awards.
Nestled in the heart of Elwood village, this set of luxurious, spacious apartments is set to provide new occupants with all the convenience of the café scene on their doorstep while being just moments away from their very own private elevated retreat.
