The beach community of Casuarina on the Northern NSW coast has reached an exciting development benchmark with the completion of the Coles Casuarina Village in the new town centre. In less than 20 years the former stretch of sand-mined coast has been transformed into a thriving coastal township, halfway between Kingscliff and Cabarita on the Tweed Coast.

Early development in the area saw the construction of extensive residential subdivisions and tourist accommodation, and further significant residential developments are underway and in the pipeline. Casuarina Beach attracts new residents not only from nearby Byron Bay and Brisbane but also from Sydney and Melbourne as people seek to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Land was set aside for the Town Centre in the original masterplan, and as the residential population grew, increasing demand for local services saw the plans become approved and construction commenced in 2015. Completed ahead of schedule, the first stage of the Town Centre comprises the shopping centre based around anchor-tenant Coles Supermarket, supported by 14 retail and specialty stores. While these outlets will meet the immediate needs of the growing permanent population and summer vacationers, subsequent stages of the Town Centre will include public open space, cycle ways, holiday accommodation, improved beach access and other important facilities and services.

The Casuarina Village features a series of products from the Alspec ranges, specifically selected to take into account the need to provide durability and performance in the demanding retail and commercial environment. Swan 45mm Commercial Doors, which can be configured in hinged, pivoted or sliding options, were employed in locations throughout the building, while Hawkesbury Commercial Multi-Fold Doors were selected for the restaurant tenancies to facilitate indoor-outdoor dining areas. For the expanses of glazing surrounding the supermarket and shop exteriors, McArthur 150mm Centre Pocket Framing was selected because of its superior security and energy performance features. Meanwhile Hunter Evo 101.16mm Single Flush Glazed Framing was used for interior shop front fixed panels.

For a community that virtually didn’t exist 20 years ago, the bustling shopping village is providing an exciting new centrepiece around which the town of Casuarina Beach can continue to develop and flourish for many years to come.
