Walkerville, South Australia
Two different outdoor spaces are cleverly integrated into this new home through the smart use of Alspec sliding doors and multi-fold doors.
The choice between sliding or folding doors is more than a personal preference or matter of trends: it depends on the intended use of the area, the size of the opening to be spanned, and the space available to house the door panels when opened. It was consideration of these factors that helped the designers of this luxury home in Walkerville, South Australia, select the right Alspec product to create the perfect connections between the indoor and outdoor living spaces.
The home was designed around two key outdoor areas: a large entertaining area adjacent to the pool, and a light-filled courtyard near the middle of the building. The priority for the entertaining area was to provide easy access and uninterrupted views from the dining and kitchen areas. In this situation, the large sliding panels of ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors were ideal. ProGlide doors are specifically designed for high-use areas potentially exposed to the elements while offering excellent insulation against noise and air infiltration.
Meanwhile the open-air courtyard was a smaller space which would be most often closed, although ideally still with the potential to be fully incorporated into the rest of the home when needed. The solution was to frame two of the three sides with Hawkesbury Multi-Fold Doors. This style of door achieves the widest possible opening because the panels are stacked to one side. A two-panel Swan 45mm Commercial Sliding Door was selected for the third side, ensuring the adjacent hallway remains clear at all times.
For openable windows around the home, awning windows were used in combination with fixed framing from the ecoFRAMEplus and McArthur ranges. The clear benefit of drawing on Alspec systems is that components can be selected from virtually any of their ranges and integrated to achieve the desired results.
And the finishing touch for this home? A Centor retractable fly screen capable of fully enclosing the outdoor entertaining area. The unobtrusive design of Centor insect screens and blinds enable wide openings to be enclosed with fingertip control, discretely retracting into the frame to remain hidden when not required. Centor screens and blinds can be custom finished, ensuring they can be integrated to complement any type of door from Alspec’s sliding and multi-fold ranges.
