Building or renovating a home in the Inner West of Sydney comes with many challenges, foremost of which are the need to maximise light and space, while preserving privacy and delivering a modern look and feel. By combining well thought-out design, the right window and door framing products, and stylish hardware accessories, that’s exactly what has been achieved in this Haberfield home.

Emphasising the leafy nature of the garden suburb, the new design focused around the creation of an impressive indoor-outdoor living area. Providing the key connection between the main living spaces are large-panelled Alspec ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors. The ProGlide doors can be used to effortlessly escape or embrace the outdoors and the weather elements as required, while the flush sills ensure a smooth transition between the spaces.

The already stylish look of the ProGlide doors has been further enhanced by the addition of hardware from Halliday + Ballie. The flush finish and slimline proportions of Halliday + Ballie products make the handle and locking systems so discreet they virtually disappear from view. Drawn from the company’s HB40 series, the high-end fittings have been colour-matched to the black anodised finish of the doors. Designed and manufactured in New Zealand, the Halliday + Ballie hardware provides smooth, confident latching and secure deadlocking along with all-weather proven performance tested in the demanding local environment.

For the remaining glazing needs of the living areas, the black anodised finish was continued in the fixed framing and window fittings, complementing the dark floorboards and feature brickwork. With an extra level of wide narrow windows positioned above the ProGlide doors and surrounding the entire living area, light has been maximised to deliver an internal living area which seems additionally spacious and welcoming. Hunter Evo 101.6mm Single Flush Glazed framing was used to achieve the look, teamed with Murray 50mm Awning Windows. The Hunter Evo’s straight cuts delivers a modern finish to the framing and interfaces seamlessly with the openable awning windows. Both products feature excellent weather credentials and thermal performance to maximise internal comfort levels and ensure the energy performance of the home.
