Japara Robina Rise Aged Care, QLD

Resort-style living awaits the residents of a recently completed aged care facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

With facilities including a rooftop garden, an onsite café, wellbeing centre, beauty salon and cinema, it might sound like the description of a luxury holiday resort. But in fact they are just some of the features on offer to residents of a new aged care facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The recently completed Japara Robina Rise Aged Care complex is located in the master-planned community of Robina. One of Australia’s fastest growing suburbs, Robina began as a residential development in the early 80s and now includes its own town centre and a growing range of medical facilities which make it a desirable location for aged care.

Japara’s $30m purpose built development includes 106 beds across 5 levels and has incorporated a number of supporting facilities for residents. The complex includes a range of room types, from a specialist dementia unit to one bedroom apartments, and various service spaces which required a range of Alspec window and door framing products to be incorporated.

For rooms with outdoor access or balconies, ProGlide UltraFlat Wheelchair Accessible Sliding Doors were specified. ProGlide UltraFlat doors were ideal as they feature a wheelchair compliant sill against Australian Standard AS1428.1 - Design for Access and Mobility. As a high performing, durable product, the ProGlide UltraFlat doors give building residents a continuous accessible path when travelling between internal and external floor finishes. The water resistant sill provides exceptional weather performance without the need to compromise on aesthetics.

For common areas throughout the facility, Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Doors were chosen. The Swan Evo doors are one of Alspec’s most popular products due to their versatility and proven performance credentials in the commercial environment. The secure centre-pocket style doors can be configured in hinged, pivoted or sliding opening options and can accommodate up to 28mm double glazing.

For the roof top garden and entertaining area, Hawkesbury Commercial Multi-Fold doors were selected to provide easy-operating stacking doors. With their exclusive Centor hardware, the doors run effortlessly in concealed channels, eliminating potential trip hazards while still being very effective at keeping out the elements when closed.

For the building’s facades, Hunter Evo 101.6mm single flush glazed framing was used, integrating well with the accompanying window and door products. Suitable for a range of glass thicknesses, the Hunter Evo framing meets energy requirements while providing an appealing flush glazed finish.

This new style of aged care living provides a welcoming and safe environment, able to cater for a wide range of care needs and in a location which gives residents easy access to leisure, shopping and health-related amenities.
