Billy Bear Childcare Centre, Bardia, NSW
Fun and learning in a safe environment are the order of the day at this new childcare centre in Sydney’s southwest.
A colourful, geometrically-shaped building featuring large skylight windows is the home of a new light and bright childcare centre in Sydney’s southwest. The new Billy Bear childcare centre in Bardia is a purpose-built facility which will provide a play and learning hub for up to 60 children each day.
Designed by ArtMade, a boutique architectural studio which specialises in early learning centres, the Bardia facility is one of more than 150 similar childcare projects previously completed by the firm. The team’s expertise is in designing fun spaces which will activate young minds and inspire learning and play amongst those who attend the centres.
The eye-catching feature of the building is the angled skylight windows, designed to draw light into the main learning and play spaces. Constructed using Alspec’s Hunter Evo 150mm flush glazed framing, the skylights flood the building’s interior with natural daylight. The same framing has also been used at ground level to provide the interface between the interior and the outdoor play area, once again to ensure maximum access to daylight.
The outdoor area, a secure space which has been fully equipped with a range of fun and challenging equipment, is accessed through Alspec Swan Evo 45mm commercial doors. Integrating seamlessly with the Hunter Evo framing, the Swan Evo doors feature centre pocket framing which makes them both secure and attractive. Where openable windows were required, Alspec ASW44 Top Hung Awning windows were installed with appropriate locking mechanisms to restrict openings as required for safety. With their overlapping internal and external seals, the awning windows will also provide the building with superior weather protection.
With the safety and comfort of the children maximised, and a variety of learning and play spaces on offer both indoors and outdoors, there will be nothing but fun times ahead for Bardia’s youngest residents.
