From out-of-date to up-to-date, this 1950s home has undergone an extensive transformation to become the essence of modern open plan living. Renovating the home was the perfect opportunity to replace doors and windows with modern, more functional styles from across the Alspec and Carinya product ranges.

Situated on a large corner block in the suburb of Floreat in Perth, the original home was a generous size, but lacking in modern functionality and appeal. A major focus of the renovation was reconfiguring the main indoor living spaces to open up and integrate more seamlessly to a revitalised covered alfresco living area adjacent to the pool.

To facilitate this connection, a six-panel set of Alspec ProGlide UltraFlat Accessible Sliding Doors were installed, replacing the previous brick wall and hinged doors. With their recessed, weather resistant sill, the ProGlide UltraFlat doors create a continuous accessible path between the indoor and outdoor areas and are wheelchair compliant against Australian Standards. A second set of the same style doors were used to connect a guest bedroom which also adjoins the alfresco area.

To replace remaining windows and doors across the home, styles were chosen from the Carinya Classic and Select Ranges, finished in a dark Monument powder coat to contrast with the mostly pale wall and flooring colours. A mixture of sliding, awning and fixed window frames were installed, each fitted with appropriate chain winders and locks for security.

To encourage good ventilation, Breezway glass louvre windows were also incorporated into the bathroom and bedroom areas, housed within Carinya and McArthur Evo aluminium window frames. Louvres are ideal to enhance natural ventilation, taking advantage of afternoon breezes to help keep the house cool, without impacting on light or views.

The front of the home also underwent a full makeover, and now features a pivoting glass Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Door. Designed initially for the commercial environment, the clean lines and secure centre pocket construction of the Swan Evo doors make them popular for modern residential builds such as this.
