Large sets of glass louvre windows have played an integral role in creating the year-round tropical oasis that is this Darwin home. Alspec Air-Flo glass louvre windows, teamed with Invisi-Gard security screens, ensure unimpeded views of the sea and city, while allowing the home to make the most of cooling sea breezes.

Located on the shores of Bayview Marina, the home has been recognised for its craftsmanship and construction excellence, winning four awards at the Master Builders NT 2019: the President’s Choice Award, Overall Home of the Year, Project Home $1m-$2m and Bathroom over $20,000. Completed by McT Design & Construction, the interior combines raw natural and modern finishes to create a family home which embraces tropical living.

On the upper level of the home, Air-Flo louvre windows feature in all rooms, providing the all-important cross ventilation to take advantage of cooling sea breezes. The addition of Invisi-Gard screens to the louvres ensures an impenetrable barrier to insects and intruders while maximising air, light and views at all times. With a young family occupying the home, the Invisi-Gard screens are also an important fall prevention measure for the second storey rooms. The impact-resistant screens meet and exceed the Building Code of Australia requirements to restrict openable windows to prevent falls from windows.

On the lower level, an expansive open floor plan incorporates kitchen, dining and lounge areas, which lead out to a poolside entertaining space. To provide a seamless connection to the outdoor living spaces, Hawkesbury Commercial Multi-Fold doors were installed. Developed in the commercial environment, the Hawkesbury doors easily span the large floor-to-ceiling height and stack discretely out of the way when opened to maximise indoor-outdoor flow. The top-rolling mechanism enables the doors to operate effortlessly across large spaces, while Weatherseal technology ensures they provide an impenetrable barrier to the elements when closed.

For hinged and pivoted doors around the home, Alspec’s Swan Evo 45mm commercial doors were selected. Also developed in the commercial environment, the Swan Evo aluminium doors deliver a modern, attractive exterior appearance in the residential environment. For two key openings, Invisi-Gard screen doors were also included, ensuring the home can be as open as possible while keeping unwanted intruders of both the small and large kind at bay.
