Sky Broadwater, Southport, QLD

Panoramic views abound of the ocean, cityscape and hinterland of the beautiful Gold Coast from this new combined residential/hotel apartment complex in Southport.

Mimicking the aqua hues of the nearby Pacific Ocean, the colourful blue balconies of this landmark development offer panoramic views of the Queensland coastline and hinterland. The 35 storey Sky Broadwater is a new part-residential/part-hotel development situated in Southport, in the heart of Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Comprising 279 apartments in a mix of one, two and three bedroom spacious apartments, the complex has been designed with private balconies and shared spaces which maximise access to the stunning surrounding views of the ocean, Gold Coast and hinterland beyond.

In selecting windows and door framing products for this project, consideration was given to those which could be durable in the seaside location, would adapt to the variety of uses required in the apartment complex environment, and which would integrate seamlessly to ensure efficient construction and installation. With these qualities in mind, Alspec’s proven commercial products were called on for use across the development.

For access to the balconies, the endurance qualities of Alspec’s ProGlide High Performance Sliding doors singled them out as an obvious choice. The heavy duty profile of the ProGlide doors will ensure robust performance, while the floor to ceiling multi panel configuration options allowed the different shapes and sizes of the apartments to be easily accommodated. For the shared resident and visitor facilities on Levels 3 and 14, the ProGlide doors were also selected, being appropriate for these high-use locations. Specifically designed to address the demands of the harsh Australian environment, ProGlide doors provide excellent weather performance in coastal locations.

For openable windows across the site, Murray 50mm Awning windows and View-Max Double Hung and Sliding Windows were selected. Murray windows are designed to withstand exposed environments such as near the ocean, while View-Max windows utilise Alspec proprietary locking, roller and drainage systems to provide similar superior weather performance.

Fixed framing needs were drawn from the Hunter Evo and McArthur Evo aluminium framing ranges. The Hunter Evo framing is a flush glazed system which creates a sharp, unbroken lines profile, while the McArthur Evo is a centre pocket system which also has contemporary appeal. Both framing systems are acoustic and cyclonic compliant, desirable credentials for this type of development and location.
