Sapphire Kingston, ACT
Enjoying panoramic views, these curvaceous luxury apartments make the most of this semi-circular waterfront site.
Light and space: the hallmarks of luxury – and the prestigious Sapphire Kingston apartments have these qualities in bucketloads. From every apartment, residents enjoy floor to ceiling windows and doors which magnify sweeping views of the nation’s capital.
The lakefront development in Canberra comprises 78 units across five storeys, above ground level commercial premises and two underground levels of basement parking. Each apartment boasts views to either the north, west or east, taking in the adjacent Kingston harbourfront, Lake Burley Griffin, nearby protected wetlands and beyond to iconic Mt Ainslie.
Designed to optimise the semi-circular shape of the site, the development cleverly uses angled panels of Alspec’s premium glazing systems to enclose the curved façade. With the extremes of Canberra’s climate and energy efficiency in mind, ThermAFrame Centre Pocket Framing and Hunter Evo Flush Glazed Framing were chosen for the task.
While both systems help minimise heat loss or gain, the ThermAFrame is a thermally broken product which significantly enhances a building’s performance. A thermally broken frame uses a non-conductive material between the interior and exterior aluminium components, effectively minimising the capacity for energy to transfer across the frame panels. As a result, interiors are more stable, comfortable and energy costs are reduced with less need for mechanical heating and cooling.
With each apartment featuring generous balconies, access is provided with Alspec’s ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors. With their heavy-duty construction and componentry, ProGlide doors are an extremely reliable, durable system with exceptional weather credentials. The panels can accommodate a wide range of glass thicknesses, single or double glazing, and be configured with up to four panels stacking in each direction to create generous openings.
For access across the site and in the commercial premises, Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Doors were installed. With an enhanced sash utilising a custom designed clamping spigot set, the Swan Evo doors are well equipped to cope with the heavy use expected in the retail/commercial environment. The versatile product can be installed in hinged, pivoted or sliding door options and complements Alspec’s fixed glazing panel ranges.
