Embodying the current trend towards curves in the world of design, this new development in Brisbane showcases the potential for softer urban forms. Designed around a cluster of four cylindrical shapes, The Standard by Aria delivers an appealing curved dimension to the Southbank skyline.

The Standard is home to 260 apartments set over 24 residential levels, atop a 6-level podium containing services and parking. The lifestyle-orientated development has a swathe of facilities on site to promote social, health and fitness activities, from ground level retail services, through to a fitness-orientated podium level and rooftop leisure facilities.

To construct the curved exterior of the residential levels, an Alspec glazing product well-suited to faceted forms was adopted: Hunter Evo Flush Glazed Framing. The flexible Hunter Evo framing can be shaped to create faceted curves and is an easy to install, high performance product. Appreciated by architects for its flush-glazed finish, Hunter Evo framing accommodates a range of glass thicknesses including double glazing as appropriate for this urban environment.

While Hunter Evo framing provided the majority of the exterior window framing needs, where a structural solution was required, ecoWALL 225 Flush Glazed Framing was adopted. The ecoWALL framing is a complete structural system designed with commercial foyers and high end residential projects in mind. It’s superior structural integrity enables it to span larger foyer heights and can reduce the need for additional steel framing. For openable windows, structurally glazed awning windows were incorporated within the fixed framing. Equipped with double glazing for thermal and acoustic protection, and opening mechanisms which satisfy safety requirements, the awning windows provide the option of safe, natural ventilation.

With every apartment benefiting from a private balcony, ProGlide High Performance Sliding doors were included to provide optimum ease of access, with their large panels easily spanning the 2.7m floor to ceiling openings. Developed for the commercial environment, the hardworking ProGlide doors provide many features residents will appreciate, from their smooth rolling mechanism to their excellent all-weather performance. Like the openable windows and fixed framing, the sliding doors have been installed with double glazing for this project, providing noise and temperature protection.
