Pipi Bondi, NSW

Privacy, ocean views and timeless style await residents of this recently completed development at Bondi Beach.

Working within a constrained site, the developers of this award-winning apartment complex in Bondi have used curved and angled concrete forms orientated towards the ocean to ensure each apartment makes the most of the iconic location.

Located in the heart of Bondi Beach, the Pipi development was recipient of the INDE.Award in 2021 for best Multi-Residential Building. The INDE.Awards are open to entries from across the Indo-Pacific region which recognise building designs which have “equal consideration for community, site, sustainability, human experience and market needs”.

The individuality of the building lies in the angular blade-like balcony walls which screen each apartment from surrounding buildings, while focusing attention on the ocean views. The 29 luxury apartments and ground floor retail space were developed by the owners of the adjacent Ravesis Hotel which fronts world-famous Bondi Beach.

The development’s balcony doors, selected from the Alspec product range, are aligned with the street, offset against the angled walls which direct sightlines to the beach. The recessed approach provides desirable shading to help keep the apartments cool, while adding a sense of depth and space.

To create a seamless transition between internal and external areas , Hawkesbury Commercial Top Hung Sliding Doors and Hawkesbury Commercial Multi-Fold Doors were installed. Top hung doors enable uninterrupted indoor-outdoor flow, while still providing complete protection from the elements when closed. Effortless top hung rolling is enabled by the high quality E3 Centor hardware, ensuring easy, convenient operation.

Hawkesbury doors are available in sizes up to 3000mm in height and 2500mm in width and can be installed in multi-stack configurations. The robust doors, paired with the textured concrete walls of the apartments, delivers a combination of materials which is both visually appealing and low maintenance.

Other Alspec products utilised included McArthur Evo Centre Pocket Framing to provide secure fixed glazed panels; Alspec’s 50mm Commercial Awning windows for openable locations; Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Shopfront Doors and the ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors.
