50 Years

In a tale with humble beginnings, founder Michael Millard sold swimming pool handles and towel rails from his VW Beetle and door-knocking around Western Sydney.

EXPLORE

1963

Michael Millard and his wife Joan crossed oceans, leaving the grey skies of Britain for the sun-baked horizons of Australia.

It was a journey that would etch Michael’s name into the annals of immigrant tales – a chronicle of vision, perseverance, and the unyielding desire to forge a destiny of his own making.

1974

The story of Alspec begins in 1974, when Michael Millard registered the name Aluminium Specialties.

1975

In 1975, Michael flew to Melbourne to win some much-needed orders. Michael secured a rare appointment with a large retail chain which resulted in an order for 50,000 swimming pool handles. Michael packed this order in his home garage with some local schoolboys helping out for pocket money.

1978

By 1978, sales exceed the million-dollar mark. With this growth, we needed a larger warehouse, so leased a small warehouse in Artarmon, Sydney. The first Alspec warehouse.

1980’s

The 1980's for Alspec was all about expansion. We opened warehouses and branches in Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle and expanded the Sydney branch to a larger building in Toongabbie.

1990’s

In September 1990, Australia entered a recession, and the construction sector was one of the hardest hit.

Alspec adapted by strategically placing larger orders with overseas suppliers while continuing to support local suppliers.

Alspec continued to grow, we opened warehouses in Perth and Adelaide.

2000’s

The 2000’s saw the business change from Aluminium Specialties Group to ALSPEC. What we were commonly known as.

We introduced Invisi-Gard, our security screen product and opened a branch in Darwin to service our customers.

2010’s

Alspec had firmly established itself as a market leader in commercial aluminium systems, security products, general extrusion, and associated hardware. Alspec had truly become a one-stop destination for all things aluminium and hardware. The product missing was a residential window and door system. In 2011 Carinya Residential Windows and Doors was introduced.

We opened branches in Cairns, Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Brendale, Canberra and Bundaberg.

Now

From its humble beginnings, Alspec has now become synonymous with innovation and quality. As we look to the next 50 years, we do so on the solid ground built by our founder’s vision and values.
