With a layout mirroring the previously completed room, this second space also features wooden French doors paired with Invisi-Gard screen doors, letting the outdoors in while maintaining light, ventilation and security.

The focal point for both bedrooms is a set of exterior wooden French doors, paired with interior Invisi-Gard security screen doors. The combination gives an appealing symmetry to the home’s front façade, while maximising light, ventilation and security for each room.

For Naomi Findlay, who is undertaking the massive task of renovating the 1880s home, the Invisi-Gard doors were essential so those who ultimately live and work in the cottage feel safe and protected at all times.

"From a personal perspective, sitting in this space, I know I’m secure, my belongings are secure, and I don’t even have to wear aeroguard," says Naomi.

"I can have light, ventilation and I can hear the sounds of nature outside, and the feeling that induces – that’s gold!"

While Naomi expects in the past some people may have been hesitant about having screen doors on the inside of a room, the availability of modern products like Invisi-Gard dispel those doubts. "The security screens of yesteryear, even a decade ago, were not as beautiful as these doors are," says Naomi.

The team from Cotton’s Glass & Aluminium worked closely with Naomi to find the best solution to screen the doors, customising them for the space so the finishes would integrate with the room’s interior. "Invisi-Gard screens give the house something that was not possible back when it was built in the 1880s," says David Flynn, Managing Director of Cotton’s Glass & Aluminium. "They seamlessly integrate into this unique build and provide airflow, security and insect protection."

They worked with Naomi to select handles, locks and hinges to suit the room’s colour palette and style, ensuring they would add to the room’s appeal while being practical.

"Invisi-Gard is also about being functional – nothing is great in design if it is beauty alone, it must have form and function," says Naomi.

With mesh woven into an extremely strong, flat finish, the Invisi-Gard screen doors become virtually invisible, ensuring those inside get to enjoy all the positives of nature, while the door’s triple locking system and double flush bolt keeps them secure.
